Merseybuild manager convicted of trading standards offences

THE manager of a building company which left two Great Sankey homeowners out of pocket due to shoddy extensions has been convicted. Thomas Turpin, of Burman Road in Liverpool, was the manager of Liverpool-based Merseybuild Ltd and appeared in court over fraud and trading standards offences. The 41-year-old falsely claimed that Merseybuild held membership of numerous trade associations, including Gas Safe, Guild of Master Craftsmen, Federation of Master Builders, Green Deal, and Alcumus Safe Contractor, to assure customers that it was a reputable business. Turpin was contracted to build an extension for a Warrington customer on a rental property she owned in Great Sankey.

Tarporley one of ten charged over plot to import drugs

A MAN from Tarporley is one of ten people charged with a plot to import cannabis into the country from America. Daniel Hewitt, 37, of Elm Close, was arrested after an early morning raid at his home on Thursday, February 18. He has been charged along with seven other men and two women from addresses across Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales. They have all been charged with conspiracy to supply Class B drugs, evading a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug and money laundering offences. All 10 have been conditionally bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 19.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the Brook Street area of Neston at around 4.45am on Sunday, January 31. He has subsequently been charged with four counts of burglary and one count of arson. Three of the burglary charges relate to incidents at business premises in Brook Street (two stores and a disused pub). The other relates to a domestic property in High Street, Neston.

A BURGLAR and shoplifter has been jailed after stealing four mountain bikes from sheds in Cheshire. Lewis Dutton went into a garden on Victoria Road, Runcorn, and entered the shed in the early hours of Monday, January 18. The 28-year-old is not believed to have taken anything from the shed, but soon afterwards he attempted to steal a mountain bike that was chained up in another garden on Victoria Road. He used a hacksaw on the chain but fled without the bike after activating a security light and waking up the occupiers. In the morning people living in the nearby St Johns Gardens and Ashley Road woke up to discover that mountain bikes had been stolen from their sheds overnight.

Lewis Dutton, of Clapgate Crescent, Widnes, appeared in Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to the offences. The court heard how the 28-year-old went into a garden on Victoria Road and entered the shed in the early hours of Monday, January 18. He is not believed to have taken anything from the shed, but soon afterwards he attempted to steal a mountain bike that was chained up in another garden on the same road. Prosecutors said he used a hacksaw on the chain but fled without the bike after activating a security light and waking up the occupiers.
