CHESHIRE â Large, saucer-sized snowflakes fell in the parking lot of Elim Park as the third and final COVID vaccine clinic got underway inside late last week. By the end of the day, the total number of vaccines given from all the clinics held at Elim Park totaled 1,014.Â

During the pandemic, there’s been an obvious emphasis on making sure people stay healthy. But keeping in the best physical condition isn’t just about keeping safe from COVID-19. It’s also about making sure your overall health stays where it needs to be.
As such, Chesprocott Health District is offering these tips for ensuring that your heart is beating the way it should be, including regularly monitoring your blood pressure, with support from your health care team, to help lower your risk for heart disease and stroke. You can check your blood pressure at the doctor’s office, at a pharmacy, or even at home. You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease.
Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary announcing a hotline Thursday dedicated to helping the district’s employees make a vaccine appointment. Teachers and caregivers in Connecticut will be eligible for the vaccine starting on Monday.
“1,600 teachers then we have the paras, then we have the administrators and then we have a custodial staff and then we have all the tutors so it’s about 4,000,” Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary said.
“There’s many options for the teachers,” Maura Esposito, director of the Chesprocott Health District, said.
Esposito says she’s working with three school districts and a private school to coordinate vaccinations.

CHESHIRE â Fire Chief Jack Casner has been named as the 2020 Connie Wallace Employee of the Year.
Casner, who has served 16 years as fire chief, was honored earlier this month at a Town Council meeting. In announcing the award, Council Chair Rob Oris outlined Casnerâs long history with the town.
âChief Casner has served 16 years as chief of the Cheshire Fire Department, and many more years as a volunteer firefighter, and he reflects Cheshire in the highest standards,â Oris said. âChief Casner also serves as the Town of Cheshire Emergency Manager, and has been working around the clock during the pandemic to service the needs of the community.â
