MADISON, Wis. – Many are breathing a sigh of relief that they’re now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, but it can quickly lead way to frustration when trying to book an appointment.
Vaccine demand still outpaces supply, meaning not enough appointments to go around.
While many are trying to answer the call to get vaccinated, Stacey Knott is taking calls to get people scheduled.
On her busiest day, the reception team supervisor at Group Health Cooperative’s Capitol Clinic took more than 100 calls. She just expects that to get busier.
“(Call volume) increases every time a group becomes eligible,” Knott said, adding that the behind-the-scenes work has been a huge task. “It’s planning day to day on what schedules are going to be open, how far out are we going to schedule, how much vaccine are we going to get?”

On Monday, everyone 16 and older in the state became eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
From public health departments to health systems to local pharmacies to chains such as Walgreens and Walmart, there are hundreds of options to choose from in the state, but that doesn’t mean finding an appointment will be easy. With limited vaccine supply and therefore appointments, health officials say it will take persistence and perhaps a bit of luck.
“It’s kind of like a lottery type thing,” said Rick Conner, the director of operations for the dozens of Hometown Pharmacies in Wisconsin. “I’ve had people tear up. I’ve seen over the phone, excitement, joy, like they almost dropped their phone.”

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin health officials have decided to make COVID-19 vaccinations available for the general public starting next week, accelerating the timetable by a month, Gov. Tony Evers said Tuesday.
The move comes as Evers administration braces for another surge in infections and a court order that could wipe out the governor s statewide mask mandate.
Currently, health care workers, people over 65, nursing home residents and staff, educators and people with existing health conditions are eligible for coronavirus vaccines. That will expand to everyone 16 and older starting Monday, Evers announced.
