Hiker Rescued Near Benham Falls A hiker was rescued after injuring himself slipping on ice near the edge of the river at Benham Falls Sunday. Philip Wolfkill, 41, from Ocala, Florida called 911 to report he couldn’t walk and needed assistance. Thankfully, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue K9 unit was training in the immediate area at the time of the call and began to work quickly on Wolfkill. “These volunteers arrived within 30 minutes of the initial call along with one Sunriver Police Department Officer who hiked in from the East side of the river.” DCSO stated.  “These volunteers began to work immediately on patient care as well as extrication plans while five additional volunteers and one Special Services Deputy responded with required rescue equipment.”

Seven People Rescued On Cascade Lakes Highway Seven people in three cars were rescued by a Deschutes County Search & Rescue crew on the Cascade Lakes Highway Sunday night. Authorities received a call around 10:00 p.m. from Eric Valentine stating he had gotten his vehicle stuck in the snow while trying to rescue his nephew who was also stuck in the snow. Valentine reported his nephew, Brandon Dustin, had left Lapine around 5:00 pm and took the “back way” to Eugene.  The nephew, Dustin had planned on taking US Highway 372 over to US Highway 58, using a shortcut to Eugene.  After finding snowmobiles traveling the highway and getting advice from the riders that the highway was closed, Dustin attempted to turn around and became stuck in the snow.  Valentine responded to help and also became stuck in the snow.

CLIMBERS RESCUED AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

Date:  12/19/20 Rescued Climber:  Sam Reiser, 24 years old from Dundee, OR Rescued Climber:  Chris Sands, 23 years old from Lancaster, PA   On 12-19-20, at about 4:25 pm Sam Reiser called 9-1-1 Dispatch, reporting he and his climbing partner, were stuck on a cliff face approximately 60 ft from the ground while rappelling a cliff face known as “wherever I may roam” in Smith Rock State Park.  Sam further reported he and his partner were safely attached to an anchor, but were unable to move further, due to their rope being stuck. Ten Mountain Rescue Volunteers from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit as well as two DCSO Deputies responded to Smith Rock State Park to assist.  One volunteer hiked to the top of the climbing trail as a hasty member while the other team members followed with additional ropes and rescue gear.

Injured skier rescued near Swampy Lakes Sno-Park

A skier who fell and suffered minor injuries near Swampy Lakes Sno-park west of Bend was rescued Friday, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. Two deputies and 11 Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded to a 911 call at 12:27 p.m. that reported that other people on scene were helping the skier, identified as 60-year-old Karen Dye, of Portland, but were going to need additional help to get Dye back to the sno-park. Search and Rescue volunteers traveled about 2.5 miles on snowmobiles and snowshoed from Swampy Lakes Sno-park to reach Dye at about 2:48 p.m. Dye was treated at the scene and transported on a snowmobile to the sno-park, arriving at about 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
