Former Prineville woman arrested in connection with shooting December 22 2020 Jenna Campbell is one of two suspects involved in an incident that occurred east of Redmond Two homicide suspects, one of which previously lived in Prineville, were taken into custody Monday morning following a shooting east of Redmond. At about 10:50 a.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff s Office personnel responded to a reported shooting involving 21-year-old man Thomas Cross and 21-year-old Jenna Campbell, also of Madras. The two subjects were reported to be in a black and blue Ford Ranger. A deputy located the vehicle near Northeast 33rd Street and O Neil Highway and attempted to stop the truck, but the driver tried to elude the deputy. The deputy then pursued the vehicle for a short distance but discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns for the public. The deputy then located the Ford Ranger crashed near Northeast Wilcox and Northwest Lambert Road. It was unoccupied at that time. L

Injured skier rescued near Swampy Lakes Sno-Park

A skier who fell and suffered minor injuries near Swampy Lakes Sno-park west of Bend was rescued Friday, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. Two deputies and 11 Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded to a 911 call at 12:27 p.m. that reported that other people on scene were helping the skier, identified as 60-year-old Karen Dye, of Portland, but were going to need additional help to get Dye back to the sno-park. Search and Rescue volunteers traveled about 2.5 miles on snowmobiles and snowshoed from Swampy Lakes Sno-park to reach Dye at about 2:48 p.m. Dye was treated at the scene and transported on a snowmobile to the sno-park, arriving at about 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

TRI-COUNTY MAJOR INCIDENT TEAM INVESTIGATING SHOOTING OF WANTED SUBJECT

Date: December 16, 2020 Charges: Warrants for Parole Violation and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender   On December 15, 2020 Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to arrest Steven Newberg on an active parole warrant. Newberg fled on foot, and deputies tracked himthrough BLM land for approximately six hours using multiple K9 teams and drones. The search was ultimately discontinued. On December 16, 2020 at approximately 7:45 AM, DeschutesCounty Deputies were following up on information regardingthe location of Steven Newberg. Deputies ultimately located Newberg walking on BLM west of Bend Road. When confronted, Newberg displayed a knife. During this confrontation a deputy shot Newberg. Less than lethal means were also attempted to get Newberg to drop the knife and take him into custody. Deputies negotiated with Newberg, and he was eventually taken into custody.
