THE CANADIAN PRESS/Frank Gunn Peel Region has reached a significant milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination effort. Public health officials say more than half of adult residents in the region are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus. “This is a huge accomplishment to reach near the end of our #2DoseChallenge,” the region said in a tweet on Saturday. The announcement comes ahead of Saturday night’s Dusk till Dawn vaccination clinic at the Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton, which is set to run from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m. Sunday. Overnight appointments are available through the provincial booking system while walk-ins are available from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The achievement was announced ahead of another overnight clinic hosted by the region to increase second dose coverage. And we want to get to 70 per cent. We want to get up to 80 per cent, said infectious disease specialist Dr. Abdu Sharkawy, who is at the clinic.

Peel enters Second Dose Coast to Coast Challenge

July 7, 2021   ·   0 Comments By Rob Paul With Step Two of Ontario’s reopen now more than a week in, Peel and Caledon are continuing to see total weekly cases decreasing as vaccination coverage increases. Before entering Step Three of the reopening plan, the Province has to wait at least 21 days past June 30 to evaluate the situation, but has already surpassed vaccination targets to advance to that point. As of July 6, the Region sits at 111,441 total COVID-19 cases 139 more cases in the last seven days, a nearly 30 case decrease from the last seven-day cycle. There have been three more COVID related deaths in Peel over the last week bringing the Region to a total of 816.
