Demonstrators advocate for raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour Unmute CEDAR VALLEY AREA, Iowa (KWWL) - Eastern Iowans gathered on Monday in support of raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The Raise the Wage Act was introduced in the Senate January 26, 2021, and if enacted the minimum wage would be raised to $15 an hour by the year 2025. A handful of demonstrators gathered outside of Congresswoman Ashley Hinson s office in both Cedar Rapids and Waterloo Monday. Organizers said the current minimum wage of $7.25 is not enough. We just think it s important for folks who are working full time to be able to provide for themselves and their family, Indivisible Iowa representative Cindy Garlock said.

Days before reopening, Sacramento City schools declare labor impasse

Two days before the Sacramento City Unified School District is set to reopen in-person learning for kindergarten to third grade, the district revealed continue labor strife regarding reopening procedures. After nearly a month of negotiating with the Service Employee International Union 1021 (SEIU) on negotiable effects related to reopening schools, the District has formally declared impasse, reads a statement posted on the district s website Tuesday.Employees impacted by this labor impasse include school secretaries, clerks, cafeteria workers, aids and yard staff, according to the district.The impasse is a formal declaration that continued negotiations would not be productive to reach a formal agreement. The district submitted the impasse certification to the Public Employee Relations Board yesterday, after notifying SEIU verbally on Saturday, April 3. The next step in the impasse process, if approved, would move the parties to mediation where a State-appointed mediator would
