With travel restrictions still in place worldwide because of the health crisis (coronavirus pandemic), the meeting of the Federation’s executive body again took place by videoconference, and not during the recent UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Ostend (Belgium) as originally planned. The UCI Management Committee approved a plan to improve rider safety, approved a new strategy for sustainable development, awarded the UCI Bike City label to new cities and regions, and attributed the organisation of several events.

WORK to remove a pop-up cycle lane is set to begin this week, subject to weather conditions. The government-funded cycle lane in Upper Shoreham Road in Shoreham is one of several temporary pathways put in place to encourage cycling and provide an alternative to public transport during lockdown. But in November West Sussex County Council announced it would be removing all temporary cycle lanes following negative feedback regarding congestion. The removal work is expected to take two to three weeks, and delays are likely on the cycleway route. A council spokesman said: “Where practical, the removal teams will take the opportunity to carry out any minor, unrelated work that needs doing on the highway, such as the removal of vegetation and repair of small cracks in the carriageway surface.
