Each of these is at a different stage of consultation and approval. OurWinnipeg and the Complete Communities Strategic Plan are heading to city council for first reading; the Transit Master Plan is expected in the next couple of months; public engagement is ongoing on the parking strategy; and on and on.

The Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) met on 3 and 4 February. With travel restrictions still in place worldwide because of the health crisis (coronavirus pandemic), the meeting of the Federation’s executive body again took place by videoconference, and not during the recent UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Ostend (Belgium) as originally planned. The UCI Management Committee approved a plan to improve rider safety, approved a new strategy for sustainable development, awarded the UCI Bike City label to new cities and regions, and attributed the organisation of several events.
WORK to remove a pop-up cycle lane is set to begin this week, subject to weather conditions. The government-funded cycle lane in Upper Shoreham Road in Shoreham is one of several temporary pathways put in place to encourage cycling and provide an alternative to public transport during lockdown. But in November West Sussex County Council announced it would be removing all temporary cycle lanes following negative feedback regarding congestion. The removal work is expected to take two to three weeks, and delays are likely on the cycleway route. A council spokesman said: “Where practical, the removal teams will take the opportunity to carry out any minor, unrelated work that needs doing on the highway, such as the removal of vegetation and repair of small cracks in the carriageway surface.
West Sussex councillor had ‘never visited’ Shoreham cycle lane before removal decision
A West Sussex county councillor who defied local councillors in removing Shoreham’s cycle had never visited the scheme in person.

In November the council’s cabinet member for highways, Roger Elkins, opted to remove the Shoreham lane despite councillors voting 6-2 in favour of reviewing the decision.
Shoreham photographer Adam Bronkhorst, a member of cycling group Shoreham-by-Cycle, submitted a freedom of information request to ascertain whether Mr Elkins had ever officially visited the scheme in person.
Adam was incensed to discover that he had not.
