RUSSIAN spies reportedly hacked Microsoft and infiltrated a US nuclear weapons stockpile as part of a nine-month virtual invasion by Moscow.
The malware used in the breach - which poses a grave threat to America - was isolated to business networks only” and has not affected US national security, an Energy Department spokeswoman said on Friday.

Hackers used various techniques, including the corruption of updates from network management app SolarWinds.
The SolarWinds hack may have impacted thousands of companies and government agencies, the DHS revealed.
According to CISA, not all networks were hacked, but everyone should take the hack as no one is safe - even if the organizations used older versions of the SolarWinds software.

“I can’t say much more as we’re still unpacking precisely what it is, and I’m sure some of it will remain classified, Pompeo said, according to a transcript provided by the State Department. “But suffice it to say there was a significant effort to use a piece of third-party software to essentially embed code inside of U.S. government systems, and it now appears systems of private companies and companies and governments across the world as well. This was a very significant effort, and I think it’s the case that now we can say pretty clearly that it was the Russians that engaged in this activity.
Energy Department Hacked, ‘National Security Functions’ Not Impacted: Spokesperson
The Department of Energy said that it was hacked by malware injected into its networks after a SolarWinds update, but that its national security functions were not impacted, including the agency that manages the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile.
“The Department of Energy is responding to a cyber incident related to the Solar Winds compromise in coordination with our federal and industry partners,” DOE spokeswoman Shaylyn Hynes said in a statement to The Epoch Times.
“The investigation is ongoing and the response to this incident is happening in real-time. At this point, the investigation has found that the malware has been isolated to business networks only, and has not impacted the mission-essential national security functions of the Department, including the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The nation’s cybersecurity agency warned of a “grave” risk to government and private networks.
The hack compromised federal agencies and “critical infrastructure” in a sophisticated attack that was hard to detect and will be difficult to undo, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said in an unusual warning message Thursday.

The Department of Energy acknowledged it was among those that had been hacked.
The attack, if authorities can prove it was carried out by Russia as experts believe, creates a fresh foreign policy problem for President Donald Trump in his final days in office.
