LG law doesn t bar appointing person with political background Karachi administrator

July 14, 2021 Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said the provincial Local Government Act doesn’t bar appointment of a person having a political background as administrator of Karachi. The adviser, who himself is tipped as new administrator of the city, made this observation while speaking at a press conference at the Sindh Assembly building on Tuesday. Governor Imran Ismail and other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have stiffly opposed Wahab’s likely appointment as Karachi’s administrator, saying that it violates an understanding earlier reached between the Sindh and federal governments on municipal affairs of the city.

First monsoon spell lashes Karachi, most of Pakistan July 13, 2021 KARACHI: Karachi woke up to its first monsoon shower on Monday, as first spell of the seasonal downpour lashed many parts of the country including Lahore, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Ziarat and Tharparkar. According to Karachi Met Director Sardar Sarfaraz, heavy showers were expected at night. The official said monsoon winds entered via Indian Gujarat, causing rain in the metropolis. Some of the city’s areas that received rainfall included Malir, Landhi, II Chundrigar Road and its surrounding areas, Steel Town, Yaseenabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Numaish, old city area, Gadap, University Road and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Unexpected monsoon shower causes agony to citizens with power cuts, inundated roads July 13, 2021 An unexpected spell of monsoon rain on early Monday morning in Karachi surprised both the citizens as well as weather pundits as most of the city areas received light to moderate showers, resulting in inundation of low-lying areas, accumulation of water on major roads and power cuts in many areas of the city. The rain started around 7am in most of the areas on Monday morning. Around three to four millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded in the first spell except for Gulshan-e-Hadeed where 17 mm was recorded. The intermittent rain continued till noon, during which different areas received 20 to 35mm of rainfall, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials said.
