Deutsche Bank gets domestic fund custody licence in China

German lender Deutsche Bank has secured a fund custody licence in China, allowing it to hold securities on behalf of domestic mutual funds and private funds. According to Rose Zhu, Deutsche Bank China’s chief country officer, it comes at a time when many of the lender’s global institutional clients are exploring and tapping opportunities in the Chinese market. “At the same time, the booming domestic fund industry is looking for global expertise to foster further development,” she says in a statement. Ms. Zhu says the Chinese regulator’s approval for the licence “demonstrates Deutsche Bank’s role in helping to further open China’s financial market to the rest of the world”.

Article content SHANGHAI Deutsche Bank’s China business has received a domestic fund custody license from the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the bank said on Thursday, showing how international financial services companies are keen to enter the country’s fast-growing fund market. The license, subject to what Deutsche Bank said was an “administrative process,” will allow the bank to hold securities for safekeeping on behalf of mutual funds and private funds domiciled in China.
