The executive meeting held by Test Valley Borough Council in June revealed a loss of £1.72 million was accrued as central government has not yet fully compensated local authorities. As part of the Revenue Out Turn Report, which was received last month, the figures show that the additional cost of the pandemic between 2020/21 was £6,182 million for the borough yet only £4,458 has been reimbursed, leaving a noticeable shortfall in finances. According to TVBC, the budget forecast for the next twelve months shows that the council is in a financially sustainable position as the loss of almost £2 million has been absorbed by using cash reserves which the council has saved over previous years.

The Test Valley Civic Service was held on Sunday July 4 in Romsey Abbey. A service was led by the Mayor’s Chaplain, Rev’d Thomas Wharton and the theme was to give thanks for the dedication and support of volunteers who have worked so hard, in particular during the pandemic. The Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Mark Cooper said: “The fact that this day coincided with the National Thank You Day was apt, during the pandemic we have seen overwhelming support from volunteers across the borough and this was the perfect opportunity for us to give thanks and show our appreciation.”
