4 flats to come up at the site of this historic pub

Photo by Manuela Wahnon Work is well underway to build new flats at the site of historic Andover pub The Borough Arms. In 2012, the pub in Adelaide Road was replaced by The Adelaide Convenience Store. Planning permission to convert this into flats and shops was approved in January 2019. Developers Benridge will build four new flats and two new shops on the site, according to documents lodged with Test Valley Borough Council. RK Bayford Building Contractors Limited is the contractor. Richard Keith Bayford, director of the contractor group, said at present there is no completion date for the project. He said: “As subcontractors we are providing 7 to 8 people on site. We are working alongside Benridge Developments.”

Andover politicians ask residents to stay local in lockdown

Political leaders have spoken to the Advertiser about their travel arrangements over the last few months as they urge members of the public to stay at home as much as possible during lockdown. Though restrictions came down following the end of the second national lockdown in December, and then have been tightened once again over the following month, politicians wanted to reassure the public that everyone is in it together. Under the current national lockdown, members of the public should not leave home unless they have a reasonable excuse, which include work, volunteering, essential activities and education. Councillors and MPs from across north Hampshire were contacted by the Advertiser to ask what they’d been up to over the past few months, and here’s what they had to say:

The five major changes to Andover in the past decade

2020 has been a year that has been full of change. Whether it’s been the two national lockdowns, the wearing of masks, or everyone becoming acquainted with the quirks of Zoom, our lives have been rather different than we might have expected. But 2020 is also the first year of a new decade, giving us the opportunity to look back at what changes have been brought to Andover during the past decade. Construction at the Pickets One of the biggest changes since 2010 has been the construction of vast new estates in Andover, with whole new suburbs for the town. In particular, the transformation of the former hamlets of Picket Twenty and Picket Piece have added thousands of new homes to the town, with construction beginning at the former in 2010, and the latter in 2015.
