Good News: Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Proclaims January 2021 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month
The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) Governing Board approved a resolution proclaiming January 2021 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month. First 5 Solano, Solano County Board of Supervisors, and Solano County Office of Education are also supporting this proclamation. The collective goal is to bring awareness to the importance of positive parenting, nurturing healthy children, and resources available in the community to support families.
“This resolution affirms that quality of parenting is one of the most powerful predictors of a child’s future success,” said Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator, Holly Collins. “It encourages parents and caregivers to seek and accept support from community resources and programs, and marks a collaborative effort with organizations outside of our district to provide those services.”
STEM work earns award for SCOE’s innovation director

FAIRFIELD Lilibeth Pinpin is starting to rack up the awards for her work at the Solano County Office of Education.
Pinpin, the director of Innovative Programs and Student Success, is the recipient of the University of California, Davis C-STEM Administrator of the Year award.
“Students of Solano County have greatly benefitted from Ms. Pinpin’s many years of experience as well as her passion for all things related to STEM,” Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson said in a statement. “We extend our gratitude to Ms. Pinpin for her dedication and commitment to ensuring STEM education is accessible to all students and congratulate her on her recognition.”
Nearly $500,000 more available in Solano to help with rental assistance during pandemic
FAIRFIELD Solano County has allocated $488,961 to expand the county’s CARES Rental Assistance Program, bringing the total to nearly $4.49 million.
An updated CARES Act expenditure report was given Tuesday to the Board of Supervisors as part of its consent agenda. There were no comments from the board.
The action included $778,000 in purchases for Public Health laboratory equipment and vaccine storage refrigerator/freezers.
Several speakers from the public urged the board to use the funds, the uses for which are restricted by the federal and state governments, to help small businesses.
Commission for Women and Girls announces new members, officers
FAIRFIELD Rechelle Nettles has been selected as the new representative for Fairfield on the Solano Commission for Women and Girls, and Andrea Lemos will represent the Solano County Office of Education.
The commission’s new officers are Chairwoman Laura Petty, Vice Chairwoman Jennifer Hamilton, Secretary Gayle Vaughan and Treasurer Sakina Ali.
Nettles brings 20 years of nonprofit experience to the commission, including as the development director of the Girl Scouts of America and as a director for the Boys and Girls Club of America. She also has worked with the homeless and those leaving prison or jail.
Parade celebrates Solano Adult Transition Program graduates
FAIRFIELD Graduates of the Solano County Office of Education Adult Transition Program are throwing a parade Monday.
The program serves 18- to 22-year-old students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism who have received a certificate of completion from high school and have significant needs for support as they transition to adulthood, according to a press release.
The program serves the Solano Special Education Local Plan Area, which includes the Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield-Suisun, Travis and Vacaville school districts.
The parade includes eight stops at students’ homes in Fairfield, Suisun City and Vacaville. It will be led by Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson and Solano County Office of Education staff in a decorated school bus.
