Court says the network involved is cutting across boundaries
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into a series of elephant poaching incidents reported in the State. Most of the incidents took place in a decade prior to 2015 and allegedly involved influential persons.
A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar observed that the crimes indicated that the network involved was cutting across boundaries. This was not a mere case of poaching, but a demand was created by customers and the names would tumble out after the investigation.

Court rejects CBI investigation and accepts the SIT probe
The Madras High Court has held that the death of city advocate R. Sankarasubbu’s 24-year-old son S. Sathish Kumar, a law graduate, in June 2011 was a homicide and not suicide as claimed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2012.
A Full Bench of Justices P.N. Prakash, G. Jayachandran and N. Sathish Kumar agreed with the findings of a court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by retired CBI Director R.K. Raghavan, that the youngster had actually been murdered.
The two officers had openly made allegations against each other embarrassing the government.
