JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): President Joko Jokowi Widodo is considering a plan to allow private vaccinations in the country as his administration races to inoculate 181 million citizens while Covid-19 cases continue to rise – despite experts’ concerns about the impact of the policy on less-fortunate groups.
Jokowi said on Thursday (Jan 21) that the private sector’s involvement in the vaccination effort might accelerate the process, which is currently expected to take up to 15 months.

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): The government has unveiled a draft presidential regulation, derived from the recently passed Job Creation Law, that offers leeway for foreign investment in tech-based start-ups in special economic zones (SEZs).
The draft, which is available on the official website of the jobs law, stipulates that foreign investment in start-ups located in an SEZ will be exempted from the minimum requirement of more than Rp 10 billion (US$710,111) applied to other types of foreign investment.
This is expected to strengthen the tech start-up ecosystem, the article reads. The regulation will further ease the process for start-ups to hire foreign workers without being required to have a government-approved plan to use foreign employees, which is included in an article of the jobs law.

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): The South Jakarta District Court has rejected a pretrial motion filed by the leader of the now-defunct Islam Defenders Front (FPI), Rizieq Shihab, pertaining to the termination of an investigation into the firebrand cleric s alleged health protocol violations.
The sole judge Akhmad Sayuti rejected all motions filed by Rizieq, concluding that the Jakarta Police had followed proper procedures in questioning and arresting him.

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): Indonesia s anti-money laundering agency has temporarily frozen bank accounts belonging to the recently outlawed Islam Defenders Front (FPI) and its affiliated groups on suspicion of money laundering.
Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) public affairs unit head Natsir Kongah said on Tuesday (Jan 6) that the move was in line with a 2010 law on money laundering and a 2013 law on the prevention and eradication of terrorism funding. We have decided to suspend any transaction and activities coming from the accounts of the FPI and its affiliations to support an analysis and financial investigation into suspicious transactions, with indications of money laundering or connection to other crimes, Natsir said as quoted by tempo.co on Tuesday (Jan 5).
