Belleville General Hospital Foundation’s current “Be Well” campaign welcomed news of a substantial gift totaling $150,000 this week from Pioneer Health Care.
This latest gesture follows a strong year of support, with CEO Travis Shawcross honored recently through a QHC ‘Values in Action’ award. Shawcross says he is delighted to support the needs of the hospital. “COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of partnerships and working together. We do everything possible to serve the community with kindness and compassion. Today’s donation is a further demonstration of our commitment to patients across the region.”

While some of Canada’s most revered non-profit organizations are struggling to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, others have already been defeated and forced to close their doors permanently. Charitable partners, both locally and provincially, have been forced to pivot and evolve continuously. Many have seen dramatic declines in revenue, have been forced to cancel fundraising events or have simply been unable to operate.

My goal is to rally in support of local business especially BIPOC-owned businesses in Toronto. I think it’s important to remember that our local shops and services still need our support in the new year.
