KASARAGOD: An activist of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) the youth front of the CPM was stabbed to death in clashes between workers of the CPM and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Kanhangad.
The deceased has been identified as Ouf Abdul Rahman (30) of Pazhaya Kadappuram in Kanhangad. IUML s ward secretary Irshad (32) was knifed and is seriously injured, said Hosdurg police. He is admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

SFI members stage a protest in Guwahati on Tuesday
GUWAHATI: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the left wing students’ body affiliated to CPM, and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the party, jointly staged protests across the state on Tuesday slamming the BJP-led coalition government for “not fulfilling its promise to generate five lakh jobs per year”.
“This BJP government has failed to keep its promise to give jobs to unemployed youths and have, therefore, taken away their right to live with dignity. The BJP had promised to generate five lakh jobs per year. But where are those jobs now?” said Kalyan Burhagohain, general secretary of the Kamrup (Metro) district wing of the SFI.

Agartala: A gang of miscreants had allegedly ransacked the residence of state committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and secretary of the West Tripura district committee, Pabitra Kar, at Khayerpur on Sunday.
Kar was a senior leader, former deputy speaker of the Tripura assembly and former minister of the previous left front government had alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backed the miscreants.
