It escapes me if there is a better scenario to describe the despicable actions of our Congress recently when they attached $21 billion of pork to legislation calling for $103 billion in funding for military operations and to care for wounded troops. The bill, among other things, also set a September 2008 end date for funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Miller-Meeks says every legal ballot was counted in the race. But Hart believes voters deserve a full hand recount to consider the nearly 400,000 ballots cast in the race for voters intent.
While some of the district s precincts were recounted by hand in late November, many weren t. Iowa Code leaves such decisions to the 24 county recount boards, which are comprised of two members nominated from each campaign and a third member mutually agreed upon by the other two. Both campaigns have complained over the extent to which these boards pursued recounts fairly or legally. This recount process was full of a lot of inconsistencies, Hart said in an interview at the Press-Citizen s office earlier this week. Votes were not looked at. The process was not consistent across the district. There are a lot of votes out there that did not get examined.
