Ned Lamont rejected a veto plea from the solar energy industry and signed into law Monday labor-backed legislation requiring clean energy projects to pay higher wages and benefits that apply to public works projects. Alternative energy companies unsuccessfully opposed the legislation that passed the Democratic-controlled General Assembly, 24-12 in the Senate and 89-59 in the House. The industry said the state has no business applying to the private industry the so-called prevailing wage rules governing the level of wages and benefits reserved for publicly-financed projects.
