Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has sent a cable of congratulations to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on his country s Independence Anniversary.
In the cable, His Majesty expressed his sincere congratulations and best wishes of good health and happiness to President Rajapaksa and the friendly people of Sri Lanka further progress and prosperity.

23rd meeting of the EU-Sri Lanka Joint Commission
Format
The European Union (EU) and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka held their 23rd meeting of the Joint Commission on 25 January 2021, via video conference. This was the first Joint Commission under the new leadership in both the European Union and Sri Lanka.
The Joint Commission meeting, was held in a cordial and open atmosphere and the EU and Sri Lanka exchanged views on a wide array of subjects, reaffirming the deep cooperation ties and the willingness to strengthen the relationship between the people of the EU and Sri Lanka further. The EU and Sri Lanka agreed on the importance of enhancing trade ties and continuing to work closely together on human rights and reconciliation issues which were on the agenda of the meeting.
Minister receives copies of credentials of new envoys

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, received separately yesterday copies of the credentials of Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H E Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen; Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, H E Malam Jora; and Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Qatar, H E Charles Sultana.
The Minister wished the new ambassadors success in their missions, assuring them to provide all support to upgrade relations between the State of Qatar and their countries to closer cooperation in various fields.
