On Jan. 6, during a joint session of Congress convened at the U.S. Capitol to certify Democratic President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory, the federal building was violently sieged by a pro-Trump group of insurrectionists who sought to overturn the results of the November 2020 election.
Around 2 p.m., during congressional proceedings, all hell broke loose. Members of the mob forced their way through law enforcement, up and over barricades as well as U.S. Capitol Police officers. The crowd advanced to the exterior façade of the building and then inside the chambers of Congress.
