McConnell blocks quick Trump trial, says unsure how he ll vote | News, Sports, Jobs

Associated Press MITCH McCONNELL WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pointedly did not rule out Wednesday that he might eventually vote to convict the now twice-impeached President Donald Trump, but he also blocked a quick Senate impeachment trial. Minutes after the House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump, McConnell said in a letter to his GOP colleagues that he’s not determined whether Trump should be convicted in the Senate’s upcoming proceedings. The House impeachment articles charge that Trump incited insurrection by exhorting supporters who violently attacked the Capitol last week, resulting in five deaths and a disruption of Congress.

U.S. Police Three Times More Likely to Use Force Against Left-Wing Protesters, Data Shows On 1/14/21 at 9:00 AM EST Police in the United States are three times more likely to use force against left-wing protesters than right-wing protesters, data from a non-profit that monitors political violence has revealed. Researchers at U.S. Crisis Monitor, a joint project between the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) and Princeton University, garnered data on police responses to more than 13,000 protests across the country since last April. The non-profit also monitors political unrest in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. The U.S. data, released this week, showed that police often responded with more force at Black Lives Matter protests compared with pro-Trump or other right-wing demonstrations.
