Milwaukee Journal Sentinel MADISON – Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul opened an early fundraising lead in his 2022 reelection bid, while Republican challenger Ryan Owens far out-paced his GOP primary opponent, Eric Toney. Kaul, who announced last weekend that he was running for reelection, has raised nearly $411,000 and has more than $537,000 cash on hand, the campaign disclosed ahead of a Thursday evening deadline for finance reports. Kaul s fundraising shows significant support among labor unions, which donated $78,000 this period.  On the Republican side, Owens, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor, raised nearly $309,000 and his campaign has almost $250,000 available. His campaign said the amount he raised was a record for the first report by any candidate for attorney general. Owens entered the race in April.
