The last year and a half was one of the most difficult periods that Minnesota has ever faced but if you need signs of optimism, look toward the investments that the COVID-19 Recovery Budget that Gov. TIm Walz signed at the beginning of July will be making in communities across the state.
Thanks to the Walz administration’s management of the state’s finances during the pandemic and a plan to get people vaccinated and the economy back open as quickly as possible, the state’s projected $1.3B budget
Fighting for the people
The July 9 article â25,500 Forsyth (County) residents could benefit from Medicaid expansionâ included an incorrect and bad-faith argument from one Republican state senator whose budget proposal failed to expand Medicaid. He claimed âthe federal government may not be able to sustain its commitment of paying 90% of the additional Medicaid expansion administrative costs.â
The truth is the federal government will do that and more. Thanks to President Biden and the Democratsâ American Rescue Plan, new economic incentives would provide a two-year, 5% increase in the federal Medicaid match rate â providing at least an additional $1.7 billion over the next two years.
