Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) is warning that Democrats’ universal background check legislation creates a “de facto gun registry” in America.
The legislation, H.R. 8, is sponsored by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA). Companion legislation was put forward in the Senate by Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).
The gun control expands point-of-sale background checks at retail to include point-of-sale background checks for private sales also.
Rep. Good warns that this involves government in all gun sales, thereby creating a paper trail that will serve as a registry.
The
Wall Street Journalquoted Good saying, “This bill creates a de facto gun registry by involving the federal government in every gun transfer, including private transfers and gifts, or else how will we enforce these requirements?”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday said America needed a vote on gun control rather than “thoughts and prayers.”
The
Washington Timesquoted Schumer as saying, “They will be on the floor of the Senate and we will see where everyone stands. A vote is needed, not thoughts and prayers.”
Schumer’s comments came on the day the House passed H.R. 8, which is universal background check legislation. The bill would expand retail point-of-sale background checks so as to cover private points-of-sale. This will criminalize an individual who sells a 5-shot revolver to a lifelong neighbor, unless that neighbor first undergoes a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check, conducted by the FBI.

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) claimed Wednesday that 90 percent of Americans support the universal background check gun control he introduced last week.
Thompson’s bill, H.R. 8, “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021” expands retail point-of-sale checks to private sales as well, thereby criminalizing all private gun sales performed without an FBI background check.
While the bill is called “bipartisan,” of its 210 cosponsors, only three are Republicans: Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Chris Smith (NJ), and Fred Upton (MI). All Republican cosponsors have histories of supporting gun control legislation.
On Wednesday, Thompson spoke from the House floor in favor in H.R. 8, then tweeted that the background checks “keep guns out of the hands of those who may be a danger to themselves or others.”

While speaking about House Democrats’ gun control push on Wednesday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) made clear “the government is never going to know what weapons I own.”
Roy said these things as H.R. 8, the Democrats’ universal background checks legislation, is being debated. Universal background checks require a gun registry in order to be enforceable, and Roy was making clear he was not going be giving up information on his guns.
TheFirstonTv quoted Roy saying, “The government is never going to know what weapons I own. Let me be clear about that. It’s not gonna happen!”
