Times Record about Chloe Maxmin, a newly elected member of the Maine House of Representatives. I chose to write about Chloe’s campaign and deep organizing because I was inspired by how she bridged the divide between local environmental issues in a rural community and the broader existential fight for environmental justice and climate action, he said via email.
Shana Starobin In our class, we talked a lot about the challenges of electoral organizing and how to connect with people around environmental politics, and I think Chloe provides a deeply genuine, deeply community-oriented model of how to do this without alienating voters.

WASHINGTON, D.C.
Who is Jorge Riley? The self-described right-wing Native Republican took part in the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
Riley definitely played the part. Like many in the crowd, he was dressed in a distinctive fashion, with feathers tied to his long, darkly colored hair.
“We pushed our way to Nancy Pelosi’s office,” Riley proudly said in a video taken on the steps of the building. He noted that it was his first visit to the nation’s capital. “We broke windows,” he said of his actions. “We pushed our way in and then we kept going further and further.”
U.S. Congressional Intelligence and Homeland Security oversight committees are opening investigations into why federal and local law enforcement agencies did not pay closer attention to a warning the day before pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol, congressional aides said.

The Ohio Statehouse and all state buildings in downtown Columbus will be closed Sunday through Wednesday amid feared pre-inauguration protests for which state officials promise a significant presence of force to deter violence.
Gov. Mike DeWine announced the closures at a Thursday morning briefing joined by state and city officials to detail preparations for a planned armed march on the Statehouse supporting the myth the presidential election was stolen from the now-impeached Donald Trump.
