ORANGE, Calif. - A man who said he hates Asians was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an elderly Korean American couple at a Southern California park after allegedly threatening violence against a Japanese American Olympic athlete, police said.
Michael Orlando Vivona, 25, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of elder abuse and committing a hate crime, Orange police announced.
It wasn’t immediately whether he had a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
Vivona allegedly attacked a 79-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman on Sunday at Grijalva Park.
After allegedly threatening violence against a Japanese American Olympic athlete, a man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an elderly Korean American couple at a Southern California park, police say.
Sgt. Phil McMullin stated that the 25-year-old man allegedly attacked the Korean couple who were in one of the evening walks. The Korean couple, ages 79-years-old and 80-years-old were doing their daily routine walk when they were approached, unprovoked, and punched both faces of the elderly. The assault put them on the ground of Grijalva Park on Sunday.
Based on the Orange police s Facebook post, they arrested the 25-year-old man, Michael Orlando Vivona, for suspecting him of elder abuse and committing another hate crime. But it was not immediately disclosed if he has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.

ORANGE, California (KABC) A 25-year-old man accused of assaulting a Korean American couple and berating a Japanese American Olympic athlete while she trained at an Orange County park was arrested Sunday, according to police.
Michael Vivona of Corona is accused of committing three hate crimes this month at an Orange park – the latest over the weekend when Orange police say he punched an elderly Asian man and woman in the face.
“The couple was on one of their evening walks as they do on a regular basis at this park when our suspect approached, unprovoked, and punched both of them in the face, causing both of them to fall to the ground,” said Sgt. Phil McMullin with the Orange Police Department.
