Japan GSDF Personnel in Djibouti Found with Novel Coronavirus

Русский Tokyo, April 3 (Jiji Press) Two members of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force dispatched to Djibouti has been confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus, according to the Joint Staff of the Defense Ministry. The personnel, one aged between 20 and 29 and the other between 30 ad 39, tested positive for the virus after developing such symptoms as fever and headache on Friday, according to the Joint Staff. How they caught the coronavirus and who had close contact with them are being investigated. The infections currently have no effects on the GSDF s activity in Djibouti, the Joint Staff said. Djibouti has been a supply and maintenance base for a Maritime SDF destroyer and P-3C patrol aircraft engaged in anti-piracy operations.

PHILIPPINE SEA The Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the soldiers of the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force executed a bilateral raid at Kin Blue Beach and in the Central Training Area, Okinawa, Japan, February 1. The training kicked off as U.S. Marines from the 31st MEU’s Battalion Landing Team 3/4 conducted a small boat raid to secure the beach, launching on combat rubber raiding craft from the well deck of USS Ashland (LSD 48). Once the beach was secured, JGSDF soldiers landed in a CH-47 with 109th Aviation Unit, Western Army Aviation Group, to coordinate follow-on actions.

Patria AMVXP 8x8 Test Vehicles on the Way to Japan Patria AMVXP8x8 vehicles have now been sent from Finland to Japan for test purposes. These vehicles are part of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force’s project called the Next Wheeled Armored Vehicle operating under the Japanese Ministry of Defense. The vehicles will be handed over to the Japanese Ministry of Defense on schedule, and Patria is ready to provide all necessary support to the Japanese in the upcoming tests. Patria has been selected as one of the competitors for the new 8x8 Wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers (WAPCs) project. The project has progressed to the test phase after which the Japanese Ministry of Defense will evaluate the vehicles.
