Sun, 4 Apr 2021, 21:42 21:42 PM | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR 4.4 quake 5 Apr 6:22 am (GMT +9) A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan, was reported only 11 minutes ago by Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 35.4 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday 5 April 2021 at 6:22 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

The tremor was recorded around noon on Thursday 1 April 2021 at 1:30 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 62.4 km below the surface. The event was filed by Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
