Reuters – Black religious leaders in Georgia representing more than 1,000 churches called on Tuesday for a boycott of Home Depot Inc, accusing the home improvement giant of failing to take a stand against the state’s new Republican-backed curbs on voting.
In a statement, Bishop Reginald Jackson, who oversees Georgia’s African Methodist Episcopal churches, said Home Depot had rejected requests to discuss the new law.
Other Georgia-based corporations – including Delta Air Lines Inc and Coca-Cola Co – have sat down with activists and issued statements opposing the voting restrictions. Coca-Cola also hosted a meeting of several companies on April 13 with faith leaders.

The faith leaders say the Georgia-based company hasn’t done enough to speak out against the state’s new voting law, which adds new restrictions for absentee voting and allows for a state takeover of local elections departments, among other measures.
Since the controversial law was signed March 25, the group of pastors has met with leaders of Delta, Coca-Cola and a dozen other Georgia-based brands.
But the Rev. Timothy McDonald with First Iconium Baptist Church in Atlanta says Home Depot has chosen not to participate in any of those meetings.

Home Depot is in the line of fire after church leaders in Georgia reprimanded the large corporation for not standing up against the new voting restriction laws that were recently passed by Gov. Brian Kemp.
Black religious leaders who are said to have started this boycott represent more than 1,000 churches around the Peach State, Reuters explained. If you as corporate leaders do not believe and lack the courage to speak out against this legislation, we will not spend our money to purchase your products, Bishop Reginald Jackson said, who oversees Georgia s African Methodist Episcopal churches.
