(PTI photo) JAMMU: The 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to overnight snowfall and eight families were moved to safer locations after heavy rains triggered landslides in Gurmul village in Jammu and Kashmir s Doda district, officials said on Saturday. Nine inches of snow has accumulated on the ground at the Jawahar Tunnel of the highway and the road is blocked at several points due to landslides following rains in Marog, Magerkote and Panthiyal, they said. Efforts are afoot to ensure early restoration of traffic on the strategic road that links the Kashmir region to the rest of the country, the officials said.

Jammu-Srinagar NH blocked due to landslide, snow accumulation ANI | Updated: Dec 12, 2020 11:02 IST Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], December 12 (ANI): Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been blocked due to snow accumulation at Jawahar Tunnel, informed Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police on Saturday. Landslides and stone accumulation has also occurred at several places. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), generally cloudy sky with light rain is expected in Srinagar today as the minimum temperature is recorded at one-degree Celsius and the maximum at 10-degree Celsius. Srinagar has been covered in a blanket of snow as the temperature has dropped here. IMD had also forecasted on Friday that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh and isolated rainfall/snowfall over Uttarakhand during December 11 and 12
