Jackson County Summer Meal Program announced
With students heading into summer break, the Jackson County School District has announced their free meal program for kids this summer.
Meals will be served to the public at the Vancleave Middle School cafeteria Monday through Friday from June 1
st through July 30

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 11 to 12:30 p.m. There are no income requirements or registration. Adults may also pay $3.25 for a meal using cash or check.
Breakfast and lunch will also be served to students enrolled in-person summer learning programs taking place in July at East Central lower and upper elementary, St. Martin north, east, and upper Elementary as well as Vancleave lower and upper elementary.

Over 5,000 residents cast their ballots Tuesday evening with over 75 percent of votes against the 20 term $67 million bond.
One voter told News 25 she thought the bond focused too much on extracurricular activities and not enough on academics.
The school district says it has been evaluating needs at their three attendance centers since 2015 in order to put together this bond.
Improvements would have included numerous facility upgrades at the Jackson County School District schools from performing arts centers to classroom additions and enhancements in the athletic departments.
The Jackson County School Board president says it is not a matter of ‘if’ the board proposes another bond, it’s a matter of ‘when.’

VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WLOX) - Next week, people who live in the Jackson County School District will head to the polls to vote on a $67 million bond the district says will improve schools.
Since the bond was announced, opinions in the small communities of Vancleave, East Central, and St. Martin have been varied, with some people supporting the bond and others encouraging people to vote against it.
