Missouri House Speaker and Ethics chair: legislator who resigned should be subject of thorough law enforcement investigation
Missouri’s GOP House Speaker and the GOP House Ethics Committee chair say a fellow Republican state lawmaker who resigned Tuesday is unfit for office and should be the subject of a thorough investigation by law enforcement.

State Rep. Rick Roeber (R-Lee’s Summit), who resigned today, was elected to the House in November. His district includes Lee’s Summit and Greenwood. His now adult children have alleged that he abused them when they were young.

Citing the “severity of the allegations” against Republican state Rep. Rick Roeber, legislative leaders have asked Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker to help ensure the safety of a minor child with whom Roeber reportedly has regular contact.
Soon after The Independent reported the request from GOP lawmakers to Baker, Roeber announced he was resigning.
Roeber, of Lee’s Summit, was elected to a seat in the Missouri House in November despite allegations by his adult children that he physically and sexually abused them when they were young.
The House Ethics Committee launched an investigation into the allegations in January.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) A Missouri prosecutor said she d work with local police in response to concerns raised by the House speaker about a resigning lawmaker s contact with a child.
Emails obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday show House Speaker Rob Vescovo and the House Ethics Committee leader last week went to the Jackson County prosecutor to share concerns about fellow Republican Rep. Rick Roeber.
After his November election last year, Roeber’s adult children told Vescovo that he sexually and physically abused them when they were young.
