Thousands receive COVID-19 vaccine in Jackson

Elderly Madison County residents waited hours on Thursday to receive their doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I don’t want to get COVID, and if this will help prevent it, I’m all for it,” said Dave Milhorn, who received the vaccine.
“We’re 86 and we need protection,” said Joy Archer, who also received the vaccine on Thursday.
Midnight. That is when Tommy Lewis got to the fairgrounds to receive his vaccine. He was the first in line.
“It wasn’t my intent to be. I just wanted to be up in the first wave because the news media was saying we’re going to have long lines,” Lewis said.
97 new COVID-19 cases, additional death confirmed in Madison County

JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department has confirmed another Madison County resident has died due to COVID-19.
The health department says an 87-year-old woman died Jan. 6 due to complications of COVID-19. A total of 147 Madison County residents have now died due to complications from COVID-19.
The health department also confirmed another 97 cases of COVID-19 in Madison County, bringing the total number of confirmed positive cases to 9,405.
Those new cases range in age from 9-years-old to 100-years-old.
In addition, 27 Madison County residents are currently hospitalized, with three of those patients on a ventilator.
90 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Madison County; 9,167 total

The new cases bring the total number of confirmed positive cases in Madison County to 9,167.
Those patients range in age from 1-year-old to 87-years-old.
There are currently 22 Madison County residents hospitalized, with two of those patients on a ventilator.
The health department says a total of 145 Madison County residents have died due to COVID-19 complications.
The health department also released statistics on patients, including zip code, race, gender, age and their health statuses.

JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson Fairgrounds were empty Wednesday, but Thursday, the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will be giving out thousands of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I was told we’re getting two trays of vaccines, and there’s over 900 doses in each tray, so around 2,000 is what we’re anticipating,” said Mallory Cooke, the health department’s public information officer.
This event starts at 9 a.m. It’s only for people 75 years and older who are Madison County residents, and you don’t need an appointment.
“We don’t know what time the line will start, but we definitely expect a line,” Cooke said.
