JACKSON POLICE CONFIRMED 13 HOMICIDES IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY ALONE. SEVERAL OF THE DEADLY SHOOTINGS INVOLVE TEENAGERS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13 AND 17. THE MAYOR IS PLACING SOME OF THE BLAME ON GUN SHOWS. HE ALSO SAYS THE RISING NUMBER OF DEADLY SHOOTINGS INVOLVING TEENS IS BECAUSE OF A LACK OF OUTLETS FOR THEM. .-Mississippi Museum of Arts Center for Art and Public Exchange today announced Shani Peters (b.1981) as its 2021 national artist-in-residence. Starting in early spring 2021, Petersa multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Harlemwill embark on a multi-part project, Collective Care for Black Mothers and Caretakers.
Incorporating aspects of her multi-faceted community-based practice, Peters public, project-based, collaborative work considers painful truths and creates opportunities for collective momentum toward learning, wisdom sharing, and community exchange. Her process is informed by her lived experience and in-depth research as she examines the politics of shared society to reveal individual and community approaches to managing the weights on and demands of Black mothers and caretakers.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba’s chief administrative officer is leaving for a new post with the National League of Cities.
The National League of Cities’ Institute for Youth, Education, and Families says Dr. Robert Blaine will be joining the agency as its newest senior executive effective Feb. 1, WLBT-TV reported.
Blaine is one of the few remaining members of Lumumba’s initial team, which included Public Works Director Robert Miller and Planning and Development Director Mukesh Kumar.

“I am proud to join NLC and lead the YEF Institute, which has recently celebrated 20 years of collaboration with city officials to improve outcomes for our nation’s children, youth and families,” Blaine said in a statement. “I look forward to the work ahead in ensuring that our organization remains a driving force in empowering local leaders to act on behalf of all residents.”
