The City Council approved a bill 18-0 on April 13 to rezone the former Regal Cinemas property on Beach Boulevard to allow for multifamily development.
A JEA Service Availability letter dated Oct. 21 from PG Investco LLC states it wants to build a 350-unit community called Presidium Beach Blvd.
A JEA report for March 30 said the number of units is 400.
Attorney Paul Harden is listed as the applicant. The rezoning application seeks to rezone the property at 14051 Beach Blvd. from commercial community general to high-density residential.
A Regal Cinemas spokesperson could not be reached about when the theater closed, but the location no longer is listed on the company website.
The Jacksonville City Council named the Eastside area’s historic Union Terminal Warehouse at 700 E Union St. a local landmark at the request of the owner East Union Property Owner LLC.
Council voted 19-0 on April 13 to approve the landmark designation, which will make Atlanta-based Columbia Ventures LLC’s plans to convert the structure into apartments eligible for city incentives and federal historic tax credits.
The final vote follows the Council Land Use and Zoning Committee’s 7-0 approval April 6.
East Union Property Owner, a Columbia Ventures subsidiary, bought the more than 7-acre property near TIAA Bank Field and north of the Arlington Expressway on Dec. 3, 2018, for $4.6 million.
Decision to approve exception for liquor store has some Mandarin businesses upset

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Planning Commission has voted to approve an exception for a liquor store off San Jose Boulevard, and the decision has some business owners in Mandarin upset.
The building where it would be built used to house a real estate business, and according to the city, in order to get a business approved in a zoning exception, the business has to promote public health, safety and morals.
Dr. Mackenzie Farnham is a dentist at Farnham Dentistry on San Jose. He said he’s frequently picked up used syringes he’s found outside the office.

Interior work can begin at the historic Union Terminal Warehouse at 700 E. Union St. in the Eastside area not far from TIAA Bank Field.
The city issued a permit Jan. 6 for WPC – Winter Park Construction – to perform the $2.7 million demolition and concrete restoration of the four-story, 365,434-square-foot building for mixed uses.
Atlanta-based Columbia Ventures LLC intends to convert the structure into apartments through adaptive reuse and a historic tax credit conversion.
The demolition is for a project that involves the remodeling of the warehouse built in 1913.
