Book review: A cruise ship is hijacked in gripping Exploded View

276 pages, $12.99 paperback Prolific St. Augustine author Bill Yancey has produced another grand adventure. “Exploded View: Nightmare Cruise” takes us on a trip from Fort Lauderdale to Hawaii on the maiden voyage of the world’s largest cruise ship. The Marilyn Monroe, a 12-story, 1,200-foot-long floating hotel with 2,500 passengers and 100 crewmen, is the first ship of the Hollywood Stars Cruise Line, which promises “great service at reasonable prices with the luxury of the PanAm Clipper ships of the 1930s.” But the cruise will soon become less than pleasurable. Along with several former Vietnam War POWs on the passenger list is a group of Muslim terrorists who manage to hijack the ship and bring aboard a couple of nuclear bombs.

Jacksonville restaurant review: Take a chance on Chancho King

With a tiny menu and plenty of passion behind the two-person operation, small-but-mighty Chancho King always provides a mix of flavors I can’t refuse. Chancho means pork in Ecuador’s native language, Quechua. Three menu items focus on Chancho King’s juicy, slow-cooked pork that’s marinated 36 hours before being roasted for 12 hours. I alternate between the equally savory and filling signature pork sandwich ($6), and the vegan mushroom sandwich ($6). Both are served with a paper bag filled with thinly sliced, homemade fried seasoned plantain chips. Grab extra napkins, as these are messy in the best way possible. Local bakery Village Bread Company provides the sandwiches’ Cuban-style loaf base. It has a perfect ratio of crunchy crisp exterior to soft, pliable interior, which houses the pork or marinated, sliced mushrooms that impart a nice, meaty texture. Toppings think pickled red onions, a range of salsas, plantain chips and fried crispy chicharrons are added l
