(Photo by Janice Francis-Smith) OKLAHOMA CITY – The day after declaring freedom for Oklahomans as the state lifts whatever pandemic-related restrictions had been imposed, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt issued a proclamation worded with a somewhat less strident tone. Regardless, the provisions of the latest executive order would appear to have little bearing on how local commerce is being conducted. All 77 counties in Oklahoma are still under a state of emergency, keeping the state eligible for emergency federal aid to deal with the pandemic.

(Photo by Janice Francis-Smith) OKLAHOMA CITY – All restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic will be removed with the executive order Gov. Kevin Stitt is expected to release Friday. “The standard for normal cannot be zero cases,” Stitt said during a press conference held Thursday at the Oklahoma state Capitol. “In Oklahoma the standard for normal is freedom. The freedom to worship, the freedom to go to work and earn a paycheck, the freedom to visit your loved ones in nursing homes, the freedom to send your kids to school in person, and the freedom to protect your family however you see fit.”

ARCADIA Oklahoma City singer-songwriter Janice Francis-Smith will present a virtual concert at 8 p.m. Thursday as a benefit for the Arcadia Round Barn. Blending folk, jazz-pop and country, Francis-Smith tackles real life with warmth, humor and honesty. She has played venues from the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Kansas to the Bluebird Café in Nashville to the Bitter End in New York City, shared her poems at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival and collected songwriting awards along the way. The concert can be found on the Arcadia Round Barn Facebook page and is part of the Virtual Barn series of live streamed concerts, which continues every Thursday night through April 22.

On the Town: Valentine’s Day fun to feature animal attraction By: Lillie-Beth Brinkman The Journal Record January 21, 2021 Lillie-Beth Brinkman When I first heard about a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner that the Oklahoma City Zoo is hosting, complete with a sea lion presentation, the original two dates for it were already sold out. But due to its popularity, the zoo has added an additional dinner for Friday, Feb. 12, so now I can share this fun date idea with you. Tickets go on sale for the new date today, so act fast if you want to come. The cute photo of a seal holding a Valentine’s Day rose that accompanied a press release is enough to make anyone want to go, but here are the details. The three-course dinner provided by Salt and Surrey Catering is limited to adults ages 21 and older and will take place outdoors in the zoo’s covered Sea Lion Stadium.
