Four Department of the Air Force service members were selected as recipients of the Military Service Award during the 2021 Black Engineer of the Year Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics conference in Washington, D.C., Feb. 12, 2021. The four individuals were recognized for their accomplishments and mentorship in the STEM career fields during the Stars and Stripes event.

West Suffolk Council is to lobby MPs for fairer funding

The West Suffolk Council portion of the council tax bill is set to rise by up to 22p per week from April, as part of efforts to meet the financial challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
West Suffolk Council s cabinet on Tuesday night outlined its 2021/22 budget plans, which features a Band D property facing a 3p per week increase in the former St Edmundsbury area, and 22p per week increase in the old Forest Heath area.
It continues a process to unify council tax rates between the two predecessor areas over a number of years, due to be completed by 2022/23.

West Suffolk Council has secured £1.43m from the Governmentâs Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to help deliver a range of energy efficiency, decarbonisation and battery energy storage projects in its climate emergency action plan.
The overall value of the work being carried out is £1.8m, with the Council providing 20.5 per cent match funding to secure the grant, an investment which will deliver energy savings and when fully operational generate income and cost savings estimated at £80,000 per year across six council owned properties.

The home affairs minister, Peter Dutton, will be asked to fund a senior lawyer for an asylum seeker whose court case could lead to the release of more than 100 others detained under medical evacuation laws. The full bench of the federal court on Friday ordered that lawyers for Dutton seek the minister’s approval to fund counsel for the Iranian asylum seeker known as DXT20. Justice John Griffiths said because the case could impact about 100 other.
LAPTOPS and Chrome books have been donated to schools by a local power distributor. Lucy Electric, based in Thame, is donating a total of 86 laptops and Chrome books to local schools to help support the local community and, in particular, students disadvantaged by a lack of technology during the Covid-19 crisis. Laptops have been donated to Lord Williams’s School, Barley Hill Primary School, St Barnabas’ Primary School and Cherwell School. John Griffiths, CEO at Lucy Electric said “Many students are at an educational disadvantage by the lack of appropriate technology to help them with their remote studies. We very much hope that this donation of laptops will make a real difference to some of the most underprivileged children and young adults across our region.
