ALBANY – New York will temporarily prohibit visitors at its 52 state prisons starting Wednesday amid a significant spike in COVID-19 cases among both prisoners and corrections officers.
The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced the visitation ban will go into effect starting at 3 p.m.
The decision comes after 577 people incarcerated in the state prisons tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days, marking about one-fifth of the 2,945 positive cases the prison system has seen since the start of the pandemic.
Among staff members, 451 have tested positive since Dec. 19. Since March, there have been 2,957 positive tests among staffers.

ALBANY – More than 1.7 million New York residents should not see any lapse in their federal unemployment benefits and can expect to see an extra $300 payment beginning next week, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo s administration.
Cuomo announced Tuesday that the state Department of Labor is in position to distribute newly extended federal unemployment payments next week, covering the weekly pay period ending Jan. 3.
The state will also be able to distribute an extra $300 weekly payment next week to each person receiving state or federal unemployment benefits, the first week allowed by the new $900 billion COVID-19 relief package approved by Congress and President Donald Trump.

ALBANY – New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday denied an allegation from a woman who says he sexually harassed her while she worked as an aide in his administration.
Cuomo s comments came in response to a question from a reporter about recent Twitter posts made by Lindsey Boylan, his former deputy secretary of economic development and special advisor, who accused him of sexually harassing her for years but provided few details about the alleged conduct. I heard about the tweet and what it said about comments that I had made, and it’s not true, Cuomo said of Boylan s posts. Look, I fought for and I believe a woman has a right to come forward and express her opinion and express issues and concerns that she has, but it’s just not true.”
