John Glenn Centennial Celebration planned

John Glenn Centennial Celebration planned CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – Plans are underway for the John Glenn Centennial Celebration which will celebrate the life and legacy of Ohio’s hometown hero, John H. Glenn, Jr. The Guernsey and Muskingum County communities are collaborating to organize the celebration. Events planned for the celebration will begin July 16 and conclude July 18, what would be John Glenn’s 100 th birthday. To help support the three-day educational, family fun celebration, a fund has been established at the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Celebrations planned to remember John Glenn on his 100th birthday Staff Report Plans are underway for the John Glenn Centennial Celebration, designed to mark the life and legacy of John H. Glenn Jr. July 16-18. Glenn was born in Guernsey County and raised in Muskingum County. The two communities are collaborating in recognition of what would be his 100th birthday on July 18. He died Dec. 8, 2016, at the age of 95. Glenn, a graduate of Muskingum College (now University) in New Concord, fought in two wars as a fighter pilot and set a transcontinental speed record as a test pilot. Then, in 1962, Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth as a member of the Mercury 7 program.
