Ashley Monroe has revealed her diagnosis with a rare form of blood cancer in an Instagram post, writing about her ordeal and expressing her gratitude for the bright spots that have made a scary few months more bearable. The post was accompanied by a slide show of images featuring her husband John Danks and son Dalton, along with friends including Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley.
“A few months ago my dr. was doing some routine lab work and found that I was anemic. Ashley Monroe has been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, the singer shared via Instagram on Tuesday (July 13). Her post reveals her positive mindset about her prognosis, and that she ll begin chemotherapy on Wednesday (July 14).
It s been a few months, Monroe explains, since her doctor did some routine lab work and discovered that the singer was anemic. I was like, FINE, I’ll just double up on cheeseburger patties, take some extra vitamins and call it a day, she says but when her red blood cell count continued to fall and other numbers looked fine, a bone marrow biopsy led to her diagnosis with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma.

The 34-year-old posted a lengthy message to Instagram on Tuesday in which she announced she s beginning chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Waldenström macroglobulinemia, a type of non-Hodgkin s lymphoma. It’s causing my body to be pretty severely anemic, and I feel it. So, I start chemo tomorrow, Monroe wrote. Seems like such a negative thing to say, she added. Until I flip that doom feeling on its head and think, wow, I’m thankful I have an illness that is VERY live with-able. I’m thankful there IS a treatment that actually works to fight what is causing harm to my body.
