We still need your help!
The coronavirus pandemic continues to make news more important than ever. Yet precautions to keep us all safe from Covid-19 continue to cut deeply into the advertising dollars that have supported Sippican Week for the past nine years.
If you have already donated to help keep the news coming through this unprecedented time: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! If you have not yet donated . . . Any amount, large or small, will be hugely appreciated.

MATTAPOISETT The Mattapoisett Tree Committee raised a flag in recognition of Arbor Day on Friday, May 30.
The flag commemorates 10 years of Mattapoisett being a Tree City USA town, so designated by Tree City USA, a foundation that helps towns and cities manage and expand their number of public trees.
The flag was briefly flown under the U.S. flag at full mast, before being brought down to half mast in recognition of Selectman John DeCosta’s death on April 28.
John DeCosta
MATTAPOISETT Selectman John DeCosta died on April 28, two weeks after sharing his cancer diagnosis at an April 13 Selectmen’s meeting.
Born in New Bedford, DeCosta lived in Mattapoisett his whole life.
DeCosta worked as a Park Supervisor for the Department of Conservation and Recreation, served as a call firefighter for 17 years and worked for the Water and Sewer Department for 15 years.
In addition to serving as a Selectman, DeCosta was a founding member of the Community Preservation Committee. He was also a member of the Capital Planning and Open Space and Recreation committees.
Mattapoisett firefighters honored DeCosta with services on May 2, and the Selectmen paused for a moment of silence at their May 3 meeting.
MATTAPOISETT Selectman John DeCosta announced he has been diagnosed with cancer.
DeCosta took a moment at the beginning of an April 13 Selectmen’s meeting to inform residents of his diagnosis.
“At this time, I am fully capable of carrying out my duties as a member of the Board of Selectmen,” he said, adding that he would continue to serve unless he is advised otherwise.
“Obviously it’s very disturbing and very concerning for all of us,” Board Chair Paul Silva said. “We’ll surely pray for you.”
Selectman Jordan Collyer agreed, saying DeCosta was in his and his family’s thoughts and prayers.
