HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. The National Kitchen & Bath Association released its 2021 Market Outlook report. The report shows the industry is poised for continued growth with overall spending for both kitchen and bath projects to increase in the coming year.
The industry anticipates a pronounced rebound in overall industry growth-from a decline of 5.9 percent in 2020 to growth of 16.6 percent in 2021, compared to 9 percent in 2018 and 1 percent in 2019.
Homeowners cite the kitchen and bath areas as two times more important than other spaces within the home, and the kitchen particularly gained status throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with 70 percent of homeowners considering it extremely important compared to 64 percent prior to the crisis.

A swift change in selling homes came as a surprise, says John Burns, for both builders and buyers. Home builders adjusted their selling methods rapidly toward virtual tours, private appointments, and online home buying. Some builders were surprised to see older buyers embracing the online sales methods, in addition to younger buyers. And according to Redfin, 63% of offers were sight unseen in December.
The federal government stepped in quickly to help in an economic crisis. The stimulus packages that the US government put into place as a matter of helping consumers, homeowners, and businesses was unprecedented, and the speed it was enacted with was a surprise to many.

The Villages, located in Central Florida, led the nation in total sales, with 2,452 sales in 2020, up one percent from the total of 2,429 sales in 2019. The top three on the list, The Villages, Lakewood Ranch (Florida) and Summerlin (Nevada), held their positions from the 2019 RCLCO list. The 2019 RCLCO list marked the first time Summerlin cracked the top three on the RCLCO list.
Phillip Molnar provides news coverage of the John Burns report, focusing specifically on the performance of Otay Ranch in California, appearing at #17 on the list with 760 sales. The RCLCO report has Otay Ranch at #48 on the list with 458 sales, so there are differences between the two lists.
