Carlow-Kilkenny TDs address Direct Provision issues in Dáil Éireann Local TDs support White Paper but cite room to improve Reporter: );   ); Three Carlow-Kilkenny TDs addressed a statement made by Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O Gorman (Green Party) on the topic of Direct Provision in Dáil Éireann yesterday. The local TDs that were afforded the chance to address Minister O Gorman s statement were Kathleen Funchion (Sinn Féin), John McGuinness (Fianna Fáil) and Jennifer Murnane O Connor (Fianna Fáil). The statements relate to the recently published (Feb 2021) White Paper , also known by its longer title A White Paper to End Direct Provision and to Establish a New International Protection Support Service .

Kilkenny TD queries OPW on follow-ups to flood relief work and cleaning of local weirs Deputy John McGuinness hears local authorities are not precluded from re-applying for funding Reporter: );   ); Local TD John McGuinness has asked if local authorities can apply for follow-up funding for to supplement flood relief schemes that have been carried out. The Kilkenny TD also sought clarity on who is responsible for the cleaning of certain weirs on rivers in Kilkenny City. Deputy McGuinness was speaking at the Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach, of which he is chairman. As is sometimes the case with these schemes, when they are finished and done and a number of years have passed, parts of the scheme either weaken or there is another issue, for instance, water comes down even further. Are local authorities precluded from re-applying? asked Deputy McGuinness.

European Commission denies Republic s claim it has started legal action against AstraZeneca The European Commission said a decision to launch legal actions against the company has not been taken at this point in time 22 April, 2021 16:31 The European Commission has denied a claim by the Republic of  Ireland s Health Minister Stephen Donnelly that it has started a legal case against AstraZeneca.  Mr Donnelly said: With regards to AstraZeneca, a legal case has been initiated by the Commission. Earlier this week, I have joined Ireland as one of the parties to that case, specifically around AstraZeneca s complete failure to meet its delivery contractual agreements for April, May and June.

The European Commission has denied a claim by Ireland’s Health Minister that it has started a legal case against AstraZeneca. Stephen Donnelly earlier told the Irish Parliament that the case was being launched over the company’s “complete failure” to meet its contractual agreements. Speaking in the Dail, Mr Donnelly said: “With regards to AstraZeneca, a legal case has been initiated by the Commission. “Earlier this week, I have joined Ireland as one of the parties to that case, specifically around AstraZeneca’s complete failure to meet its delivery contractual agreements for April, May and June.” Mr Donnelly made the comments while giving an update on the country’s vaccine programme.
