Salvos Salutes: Honoring hard workers and influential people in Johnson County

By Rod Sullivan 2020 is coming to a close, and it is time for honoring a few select Johnson County residents with that most treasured of honors, the Salvos Salute. This is the fifteenth annual set of awards, and there are always more people who deserve awards than there are awards to give. We live in a great county! Salvos Salutes do not have specific criteria, but you can bet that in general, most of the winners are courageous, advocate for peace and justice, have good ideas, speak truth to power, avoid hypocrisy and look out for the less fortunate. County EOC Gives Update on Vaccine Info – Sheridan Media

The Johnson County Emergency Operations Center issued a media release over the weekend, giving an update on the latest information concerning the COVID-19 vaccine. Wyoming has received the first shipments of the Pfizer vaccine and has distributed it to the five hardest-hit counties. The Wyoming Department of Health has allocated Moderna vaccine to Johnson County and other rural counties, due to the ability to direct ship the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended a tiered approach for COVID-19 vaccinations moving forward. Phase 1a of the vaccination schedule will begin with healthcare providers, and is expected to begin in January.

Iowa reports zero COVID-19 deaths and 601 new positive cases Monday

Iowa again reported no new confirmed COVID-19 deaths Monday, keeping the state’s death toll at 3,589 and marking the third time the state has reported zero deaths in the past five days. According to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health, the state recorded 601 new COVID-19 cases from 11 a.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Monday, bringing the total of cases to 267,748. Among those additions were 116 new cases among children ages 17 and younger and one new case involving an education worker. A total of 27,725 children in Iowa have tested positive for the virus since March, and 10,623 education workers have tested positive.
