Johnson Co inmate receives max sentence for stabbing

Courtesy of Johnson County Prosecutor FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday that Joshua Medcalf, 31, was sentenced on a charge of aggravated battery for a Christmas Day stabbing of another inmate at the Johnson County Jail. On December 25, 2019, Medcalf was captured on video during the early morning hours in the common area of his cell block approaching fellow inmate Phillip Lasley from behind. Lasley was on a video call at the time. Medcalf could reportedly be seen removing an object from his waistband and then repeatedly striking Lasley with it in the upper body and head area. Lasley was eventually able to get the object, later determined it to be a broken piece of a broom handle, away from Medcalf.

A 31-year-old Holden man is facing multiple felonies for his alleged involvement in a deadly shooting that took place in September of last year. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, just before midnight September 26, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of SW Route U in Holden in regards to a female who was shot. Upon arrival, deputies located 29-year-old Sabrina Page (Farris), of Holden, deceased from a gunshot wound. During the investigation, deputies arrested Daniel Allen Page, of Holden. On September 27, the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Daniel Page, with no bond.

For more than 150 years, the tree stood at a 30-degree angle about 3 miles south of Franklin in the 3500 block of Airport Road. The tree’s removal was initiated after a citizen submitted a formal complaint asking the highway department to look into the safety of it. On June 4, Airport Road, also known as Nineveh Road, was closed after an initial inspection determined the tree was unsafe to drive under. Then, in June, two master arborists determined the tree was at “extreme risk” of falling. So, the Johnson County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 to remove the tree. County officials and local artisans are still looking at ways to preserve the tree, such as a memorial.
