Police arrest eight in Franklin child sex sting

View Comments A child solicitation sting netted several arrests in Franklin this week, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.  In Operation Guardian, detectives posed as a 14-year-old child in chat rooms. People interacted in those chat rooms with who they thought was a child, asked to have sex and agreed on a location to meet. Police arrested the people who arrived at the meetup spot and took them to the Johnson County Jail.  Seven men were charged with felony child solicitation in the sting, according to the release. 04/29/21 The April 2020 drowning of a Tiffin teenager led the Iowa House to unanimously pass a bill making it a crime to fail to disclose the location of a body with intent to conceal a crime. Three teens and an adult were present when 15-year-old Noah Herring drowned in Coralville Lake. The Gazette reports that none of them called 911 and reportedly withheld information about his disappearance that delayed the discovery of his body by four days. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office could not file charges against those on scene because there was no statute on the books to prosecute them with. As a result, the law passed through the House makes it a serious misdemeanor if someone witnesses an individual “suffering from imminent danger of death or risk of serious injury” and fails to contact authorities. Elders, 39, has also been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant with a firearm and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Johnson County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Ronny McBroom on April 15 set Elders’ bond at $1 million on the aggravated assault charge, $10,000 on one of the possession charges and no bond on the other.

GBI: 2 Georgia teens found shot dead near rural road By FOX 5 Atlanta Digital Team Published  JOHNSON COUNTY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into what led to two teenagers being fatally shot after their bodies were discovered near a rural road in Middle Georgia on Friday. The GBI said in a tweet that investigators identified the bodies of Destiny Hope Kight, 18 of Wrightsville, and Charles Jaylon Garrett, 18 of East Dublin. Both had suffered gunshot wounds, the GBI said.  Officials said Johnson County Sheriff s Office deputies found the two victims at around 1 p.m. on Friday at 1383 Paul Lord Road, a few miles east of Wrightsville.
