Trial date pushed back again for Solon man accused of sexually abusing two girls

2/28/21 A trial date has been pushed back again for a Solon man accused of sexually abusing two girls. 49-year-old Robert Egesdal of Highway 1 Northeast was originally set to stand trial on March 17 th of last year. But Judge Patrick Grady granted a continuance, and the trial was pushed back to June 2nd. It was then pushed back again to December 1st, and again to March 2 nd of this year. On Friday, Judge Mary Chicchelly pushed it back again to September 7 th. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Egesdal began a pattern of sexually assaulting a young girl at his residence starting in 2014 when she was 12. The alleged abuse continued through April of 2019.

IC man accused of trying to buy gun after domestic abuse conviction faces new charges after police chase

2/28/21 An Iowa City man facing a felony charge after allegedly trying to purchase a firearm following a domestic abuse arrest faces new charges after a police chase south of Iowa City Saturday night. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a car with a broken headlight just after 6:45 Saturday night near the corner of Sand Road and Napoleon Street. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Corbin Ranslem of Langenberg Avenue, allegedly took off as the officer approached the vehicle on foot, leading to a brief police chase. Deputies say Ranslem eventually ditched the car and tried to flee on foot, but was eventually located by pursuing officers.

Man who barricaded in North Liberty business shot at police 6 times, complaints show

NORTH LIBERTY A Maryland man who barricaded himself inside a North Liberty business is accused of shooting at police. Around 3:37 p.m. Thursday, Jason R. Brazao, 38, was on Coral Ridge Avenue in Coralville driving a van that was being sought in a suspected crime, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and North Liberty police criminal complaints. Deputies attempted to stop Brazao, who fled for several miles, authorities said. The vehicle pursuit ended on Stewart Street in North Liberty, and Brazao ran from the vehicle. During the foot chase, he fired at officers six times with a 9 mm handgun, police said.
